Docents
Volunteer docents at the NCMA facilitate conversations and guide groups of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities through the Museum on a daily basis. They remain the go-to volunteer organization for visiting groups of all types to learn about the NCMA’s art collection.
The Museum provides docents with regular training and learning opportunities that explore strategies to keep Museum tours engaging, fun, and relevant for all NCMA visitors. New docents commit to one year of initial training with Museum staff to study foundational collection information and facilitation techniques to effectively share all they have learned. During this time they become part of a focused learning community that values collaboration, skill-set expansion, community service, and, of course, art!
If you would like to volunteer as a docent for the North Carolina Museum of Art, please email the manager of tour experiences at md.hall@dncr.nc.gov.
Docents at the Museum really value learning about the arts. They make time to lead tours every week because they understand the importance of art and want to share it with all who take time to appreciate it. Read this article in Our State magazine to hear from docents about their contributions to the NCMA’s visitor experience.
