Get Involved
The NCMA depends on a dedicated corps of volunteers, docents, and interns to contribute their expertise and ideas in a variety of ways to strengthen the Museum’s connection to its community and to develop their own skills and connections. Learn more about how to get involved below.
Docents
Docents love art and love helping our visitors enjoy and understand it more fully. NCMA docents serve about 30,000 people a year, about two-thirds of them school-age children.
Volunteers
Our volunteers play a vital role in advancing our mission of preserving the people's art collection. Their support allows the Museum to engage with the community and enrich lives through the power and wonder of art.
Art Society
As the founding body of the Museum, this group advocates for the Museum across the state, so that all citizens—newcomers and natives, schoolchildren and seniors—know that they have a museum in Raleigh.
Internships
Internships at the NCMA provide opportunities to become familiar with and actively contribute to the inner workings of an art museum. They are available in many departments, such as Curatorial, Education, Marketing, and Advancement.
Friends of the Judaic Art Gallery
The Judaic Art Gallery at the North Carolina Museum of Art illuminates the spiritual and ceremonial life of the Jewish people through works of art of aesthetic excellence.
Friends of Greek Art
Marble statues of heroes, emperors, gods, and goddesses displayed with ceramic vessels of remarkable skill in the classical art galleries enrich the visit of adults and children, offering insight into history, artistic techniques, and philosophy.
