Teens

The NCMA is the place to be for teens. Check out classes, workshops, special events, and internships designed especially for teens to develop their skills and connect with art, ideas, and other young people.

Teen Arts Council 2025-26

Members of the NCMA Teen Arts Council are the teen ambassadors of the Museum. They meet on Thursdays from 4:30–6:30 pm and attend teen events from September through June. Council members plan teen takeovers, help plan teen art exhibitions, attend artist workshops, and learn about museum careers.

Please contact Sabrina Hurtado, manager of teen and college programs, at sabrina.hurtado@dncr.nc.gov if you have any questions.

Teen Workshops

Learn new techniques and processes by participating in workshops led by professional writers, artists, and filmmakers. We offer teen workshops for ages 13–18 and adult workshops for ages 16+.

Teen Online Art Courses

Students from Asheville to Wilmington can connect with the Museum and teens across the state who share similar interests. We offer online courses in Art of Fashion, Art of Game Design, and other topics through the North Carolina Virtual Public School.

Teen Proficiency Endorsement

North Carolina allows students in public and charter high schools to earn special “endorsements” on their diplomas. The Arts Proficiency Endorsement is a recognition you can earn for being committed to the arts. If you take arts classes, create outside of school, or participate in things like workshops, performances, or community art events, you can work toward this endorsement.

The NCMA offers a variety of ways for teens to learn, create, explore, and build experience toward the endorsement requirements.
