Overview
In this workshop with artist Isys Hennigar, participants explore bas-relief, a hand-building technique used to create dimensional imagery on clay tiles and ceramic surfaces. Using carving and appliqué techniques, students craft imagery in bas-relief on clay slabs, drawing inspiration from personal experiences, mythology, or the natural world.
After the workshop finished pieces will be fired at Pullen Arts Center and can be picked up at a later, coordinated date. All supplies included. No experience required.
About the artist
Isys Hennigar is a North Carolina-based artist working primarily in ceramics, as well as metal and wood. Her work evokes real and reimagined ecological encounters, exploring the ways in which the natural world is constructed, interpreted, and mythologized. Hennigar received her MFA from the University of Georgia and her BFA from UNC-Chapel Hill. She has exhibited at Signature Contemporary Craft, Sow & Tailor Gallery, the American Museum of Ceramics, and the NCMA. She currently teaches at the University of Georgia.
