Corn-Husk Dolls with Laura Walkingstick

Learn the art of corn-husk doll making with Eastern Band Cherokee artist Laura Walkingstick. In this three-hour workshop, you’ll create your own doll from start to finish using prepared corn husks. The process includes adding hair, designing clothing, and finishing with trim and embellishments.

All materials are included. Ages 16 and older.

About the artist
Laura Walkingstick is a mixed media artist specializing in doll making. She received her AFA and BFA in studio arts at the Institute of American Indian Arts College.

Walkingstick learned to sew at 10 years old and over time branched out into other mediums for her doll making. She has a love for textile objects, materials, and jewelry. She wants her audience to have a different perspective when they think of their childhoods and strives to create awareness and promote healing for the many historical traumas humans carry.

Participants can view Laura Walkingstick’s work in the exhibition To Take Shape and Meaning: Form and Design in Contemporary American Indian Art.
