Rage Retreat with Redbud Writing Project

1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Overview

In this co-taught two-hour workshop, Redbud Writing founders Emily and Arshia delve into how writers can explore and interrogate the topic of rage in memoir and fiction. Together, participants examine how anger, so often dismissed, minimized, or pathologized, can become a powerful creative force on the page. Through guided prompts and in-class exercises, students practice translating emotional intensity into vivid, compelling prose and discuss craft techniques for shaping raw feeling into narrative focusing on voice, structure, and emotional clarity.

About the presenters
The Redbud Writing Project is a nonprofit whose mission is to bring the life-changing power of creative writing to everyone in our community. Since 2019, they’ve served as a literary hub in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and beyond by offering rigorous yet fun six-week classes, yearlong intensives, one-off events, bimonthly readings, writing retreats, galas, a short story contest, a literary magazine, and more. Everyone, from beginners to pros, is welcome at Redbud. The arts are a tool for wellness, catharsis, and personal and social transformation, which is why Redbud is committed to including everyone in their classes, not just those who can afford tuition. They offer free classes for survivors of domestic violence, unhoused folks, low-income seniors, and more. They also have a scholarship program that allows students to take tuition-based classes at a reduced cost.
