Mixed Media Quilt Collage Workshop with Noelle Gunn
This program is offered in conjunction with the exhibition Layered Legacies: Quilts from the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts at Old Salem.
In this two-day workshop, students create a quilt collage using a variety of mixed-media materials and techniques. Methods of mark making are explored through hand stitching and sewing machine exercises. A variety of layering techniques with paint, photo transfers, fabric, and paper are also introduced. Through play and discovery, students find or enhance their own visual language and aesthetics.
Students then create a work of art with personal meaning, potentially using materials of their own. Art supplies and collage materials are provided by the Museum, but students are encouraged to bring their own personal materials as well.
