End Paper: Bookbinding with Gerald Ward
In this workshop students learn how to construct several styles of nonadhesive bindings, including the three-hole pamphlet stitch binding, chain-stitch binding, the 4-hole Japanese stab binding (yotsume toji), and the noble Japanese stab binding (koki toji). All materials and tools are provided.
About the instructor
Gerald Ward is an experienced book and paper conservator and possesses a BA in English and an MLIS from UNC Greensboro. Prior to his current role as librarian in Media and Digital Services at High Point University, Ward spent over 18 years managing large regional conservation labs dedicated to the preservation of rare books and historical records. He is a member of AIC, ALA, SERCA, and the Guild of Bookworkers.
