Empowering Teens: Boundaries and Interpersonal Effectiveness

Join us for our second Empowering Teens event with the NCMA’s Teen Arts Council (TAC). This series is organized by the TAC to create a community of teens interested in exploring mental health topics through the arts and with the support of local mental health professionals.

Healthy relationships are sustained by healthy boundaries. One way to build healthy boundaries is to understand and use interpersonal effectiveness skills. This interactive workshop led by Dr. Marvella Bowman introduces participants to these concepts. Attendees then create artwork that can serve as a reminder to be honest, communicate needs, and maintain values.

About Dr. Marvella A. Bowman, PhD, HSP-P
Dr. Bowman is a clinical psychologist who has worked with adolescents in residential treatment, juvenile detention, and hospital settings, and currently works in the state prison system. Her role allows her to organize internship and practicum opportunities for those pursuing higher education and careers in correctional mental healthcare as well as orchestrate the creation of training materials designed to educate staff working in correctional institutions. Outside of the prison setting, she provides consultation and assessment to those seeking assistance in the community as well as workshops and presentations on a variety of topics related to behavioral health and well-being.
