Cypress Society Singers and Dancers

Cypress Society Singers and Dancers, established with generations’ worth of knowledge kept through lifetimes of resiliency, represent the Lumbee and Kahtehnuaka Tuscarora peoples of North Carolina. Primarily led by the Littleturtle family (Tuscarora/Lumbee), the group tells the old stories of the Eastern Woodland Native nations and shows the old dances and songs, led by various members. The audience goes on a journey that commences at the beginning of creation and gets a glimpse of the culture and traditions of the original inhabitants of Turtle Island.

This educational performance is part of a free community day that includes family activities and admission to the exhibition To Take Shape and Meaning: Form and Design in Contemporary American Indian Art. This event is part of a weekend of celebration that includes the Dix Park Inter-Tribal Pow Wow.
