Afrofuturism: The History, the Arts, and the Culture

Join Grammy-nominated musician Pierce Freelon at the NCMA for a roundtable discussion about the history and future of Afrofuturism, its role in the arts, and its impact on Black culture. Panelists include Valerie Johnson, dean of arts, sciences, and humanities at Shaw University; Carly Jones, president and CEO of ArtSpace; Fabian Williams, visual artist; and Jalen Jackson, ArtSpace HBCU student in residence.

Doors open at 5:30 pm for networking and light refreshments. Panel discussion begins at 6 pm. Ruth E. Carter: Afrofuturism in Costume Design exhibition and NCMA Store open until 8 pm.

Additional ticket purchase required to attend Ruth E. Carter: Afrofuturism in Costume Design, with free exhibition admission for all students, and individuals 21 and under.
