Storytelling and Art

Meet Scott Davis, a North Carolina filmmaker who has created documentaries for UNC-TV. Here he describes how he approaches telling stories about art at the NCMA.

In the Museum’s online Art of Videography course, high school students develop, produce, and edit videos working collaboratively and individually to hone skills as videographers, scriptwriters, directors, and storytellers. Drawing on inspiration from the collection at the NCMA, students develop creative and critical thinking skills as they engage with works of art.

In the course Scott Davis talks about how he uses film to tell stories about art. Students then demonstrate the fundamentals of storytelling by creating a storyboard based upon a work of art from the Museum’s collection.

Art of Videography is one of five of the NCMA’s online high school courses available through the North Carolina Virtual Public School.
