The North Carolina Chamber Music Institute (NCCMI), founded by North Carolina Symphony musicians Elizabeth Beilman and Jimmy Gilmore, is a unique and powerful way to train young musicians. Each student is an essential part of a team, coached by inspiring teachers, and given opportunities to perform in high-exposure settings. NCCMI is funded in part by the City of Raleigh, the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County, and the N.C. Arts Council and is dedicated to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

United Strings of Color

The Philharmonic Association’s United Strings of Color began in 2018 as a project to address racial disparity in classical music by encouraging all young people to pursue music making. The string quartet has performed at Raleigh’s African American Cultural Festival, with the Durham Symphony, and for Raleigh’s Boys and Girls Club. The group has also been featured as a My Brother’s Keeper partner.

Triangle Youth Philharmonic Woodwind Quintet

The Triangle Youth Philharmonic Wind Quintet performs repertoire for clarinet, flute, horn, oboe, and bassoon. The quintet has a long history of excellence and success and traveled to Cary’s sister city, Le Touquet, France, in 2014. The coach is Mary Boone, assistant principal flute with the North Carolina Symphony.
