NCMA in Dialogue: Environmental Art in a Time of Crisis

Tune in to NCMA in Dialogue for thought-provoking conversations with artists, musicians, and filmmakers as we approach the timely and important topics of society and culture and explore how creatives are using the arts as a tool for change in the world.

Join us for a conversation between artists who all reflect through art, ceremony, and activism on themes of environmental justice and the relationship humans have to the earth we inhabit. The discussion will be moderated by Nancy Strickland Fields, director and curator of the Museum of the Southeast American Indian in Pembroke, North Carolina.

Participants include artist Anita Fields, who works in clay and textiles to explore the worldview of her Osage background. Landscapes, the environment, and the influences of nature are themes in her work.

Painter and muralist Yatika Starr Fields creates large-scale projects and works on canvas influenced by graffiti aesthetics and landscape painting. His compositions, which contain both historical and contemporary themes influenced by concerns of world differences, are spontaneous and left open for interpretation.

Tali Weinberg’s sculptures, drawings, and textiles address relationships between climate change, industry, illness, and displacement. Her feminist body of work merges practices of record keeping and scientific research with expressions of grieving and lived experience.
