Stitching and Embroidery Workshop with Aliyah Bonnette
Ruth E. Carter’s work is based on research. She includes time in her research process for “reading about a time period, speaking to historians, studying the way the mind thought and body moved, and learning about innovative or ancient design techniques that can enhance the costume.”
In this workshop with Aliyah Bonnette students utilize old and new fabrics and designs they create to slow stitch a sketchbook/ journal cover that they can use for their research. Participants learn surface design, basic stitching/embroidery techniques, and other forms of fabric manipulation to create a finished product based on their ideas and creativity.
