Join us for this showcase of documentary short films made by and about North Carolinians and their diverse experiences in the Tar Heel State. Take a journey through North Carolina through this eclectic collection of short films that depict the stories, diversity, and resilience of these individuals and communities.

Short Films
Ike “The Stickman” Hawkins (2021). Directed by Aaron Thaddeus, 6 min.
Ike Hawkins is a Burlington native who grew up in a musical family. His mother taught music for 65 years and was a huge influence. A humble legend, he packs a punch of soul on stage.
Chilly and Milly (2021). Directed by William D. Caballero, 9 min.
Eleven years after filming a documentary about his family, Caballero returns home to Fayetteville to revisit scenes with his parents, Chilly and Milly. This short had its world premiere at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival.
Now Let Us Sing (2021). Directed by Dilsey Davis, 15 min.
One Human Family, an interfaith, interracial choir in Durham, is forced to take a new direction during the pandemic. Members must grapple with the emotional rollercoaster of trying to sing as one unit while living miles apart.
Un Buen Carnicero / A Good Butcher (2014). Directed by Victoria Bouloubasis, 14 min.
For two decades Tolo Martinez has worked at Cliff’s Meat Market in Carrboro, learning “country” English and giving college professors, blue-collar workers, and longtime patrons exactly what they want–and always with a smile.
Santuario (2018). Directed by Christine Delp and Pilar Timpane, 30 min.
After 25 years in the US, Guatemalan grandmother Juana Ortega is threatened with deportation and takes sanctuary in a small church in Greensboro. This is a documentary about the true meaning of church in today’s immigration climate.
Niblets (2021). Directed by Douglas Vuncannon, 25 min.
Yellow, squeaky, buttery–corn. This is a film about food aversion, growing up, and the dangers lurking in your own backyard. Niblets is a profile of erstwhile skronk-rock star Anne Gomez, an attorney working in indigent criminal defense.
