Persepolis (2007). Directed by Vincent Paronnaud and Marjane Satrapi, 96 min., French with English subtitles, PG-13
Based on Marjane Satrapi’s autobiographical graphic novel, this animated film depicts a young Marjane as she grows from child to rebellious punk teen in pre- and postrevolutionary Iran. “A delightful, curious film that indulges in both the personal and the political and provides a potted history of modern Iran through one woman’s experience.” (Time Out)
