We’re reimagining the People’s Collection, and your favorites may be on the move. If you’re visiting to see a particular object, please email help@ncartmuseum.org to confirm it’s on view. Staff will respond as soon as possible during gallery hours, Wednesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm.

Our Judaic, Rodin, Italian, Dutch and Renaissance, and Modern and Contemporary galleries will remain on view through May 29, 2022, along with a selection of works from the African arts collection. West Building will then close to the public, reopening October 8, 2022. Learn more about this exciting reinstallation project and related reopening celebrations.

NCMA Cinema: Ailey

The Department of Natural and Cultural Resources and the North Carolina Museum of Art require film and lecture program participants ages 13 and up to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 NAAT or PCR test result; test results must be within 72 hours of the event. Ailey (2021). Directed by Jamila Wignot, 82 min., PG-13

This immersive portrait of dance pioneer and visionary artist Alvin Ailey is told through his own words, archival footage, interviews with those who knew him, and a commissioned dance inspired by his life. “Perhaps the greatest gift of this tightly conceived and beautiful doc lies in its appreciation of the divinity of dance.” (Hollywood Reporter)
