Museum Park Concerts for Kids: Pierce Freelon

Museum Park Concerts for Kids is the NCMA’s new outdoor performance series for young audiences. Our inaugural concert features two-time Grammy-nominated artist Pierce Freelon, whose joyful music blends hip-hop, electronic jazz, and soul. His modern and dynamic sound is inspired by his journey as a millennial dad and crafted for today’s modern families. Through honest and playful lyrics, rich melodies, and fresh beats, he shares stories and welcomes kids and adults to his world.

Freelon’s critically acclaimed work has been featured on the Today Show, NPR, and PBS Kids animated series Alma’s Way and Work It Out Wombats! and in Billboard, Rolling Stone, and Parents magazines. He is also the co-creator and talent of the PBS Kids podcast “Jamming on the Job” and has written two children’s picture books published by Little Brown. He was nominated for a Grammy in 2024 alongside his mother, jazz singer Nnenna Freelon, for AnceStars, their first family album together.

Free art making! Come early to make your own pair of magical glasses based on the artist Cyrus Kabiru’s futuristic sculpted eyeglasses in his photograph Macho Nne 19 (Speedometer), now on view in West Building. Stay after the concert to explore the galleries with your new super specs and see the art in a whole new way. Photo: Cali Stuckey
