Making Morning at NCMA W-S Downtown: How to Draw the Face

Join us for a morning workshop, How to Draw the Face, at the NCMA Winston-Salem’s new downtown gallery space. Stephen Lursen, a middle school art educator showcased in the NCMA’s Creative Lives of Educators exhibition, leads this program. He guides participants through the process of drawing the face step by step while also explaining how he teaches this to middle school students within the framework of an observational drawing unit, which culminates in a student self-portrait project.

You don’t have to be a teacher to attend, though visual art educators will gain access to the entire unit as a resource, with lessons laid out chronologically and growing in difficulty, leading students to learn the necessary skills to go from zero to completing a self-portrait project.
