Journeys: A Dance Activation of The Time Is Always Now
NCMA choreographer-in-residence Frankie Lee III presents Journeys, a powerful new performance inspired by the exhibition The Time Is Always Now: Artists Reframe the Black Figure. This work weaves together elements of dance, spoken word, film, and interactive performance to explore the intersections of African American history, culture, and personal narrative. Drawing from his own experiences, Lee creates a vivid and emotionally resonant work that parallels themes found in the exhibition, offering a compelling reflection on identity, resilience, and the Black experience.
The performance features artists from both Raleigh and Atlanta and includes a special audience engagement segment. Following the performance, join the artists for a postshow talkback to dive deeper into the creative process.
