Taking Venice (2023). Directed by Amei Wallach, 1 hr. 38 min., documentary, NR

In 1964 American art insiders orchestrate an audacious plan to win the Venice Biennale’s top prize with controversial artist Robert Rauschenberg, turning a prestigious art show into a Cold War cultural battleground.

Following the screening join us for a conversation between filmmaker Amei Wallach and NCMA Director Valerie Hillings, a participant in the film. Hillings and Wallach discuss Rauschenberg’s important contributions to international contemporary art during the 1960s and the intersection of his participation in the 1964 Venice Biennale with global politics in the Cold War era.
