From Stone to Sculpture: A Guided Workshop with Paris Alexander
Please note: this is a two-day workshop, meeting Saturday and Sunday, February 17 and 18, from 10 am to 5 pm each day.
Join acclaimed artist Paris Alexander for an enriching workshop in which he shares his artistic journey and the influences that have deeply affected his creative process. In the hands-on portion of the workshop, Alexander introduces you to the captivating world of rock carving, with a focus on the beautiful medium of alabaster. You’ll learn the basics of the carving process, from selecting the right tools to understanding the unique qualities of alabaster.
Guided by Alexander’s expertise, you’ll have the opportunity to transform a small block of alabaster into your very own sculpture. As you carve you’ll draw inspiration from the artworks at the NCMA, infusing your sculpture with newfound insights and artistic depth.
