Painting a Symbolic Still Life: Inspired by a Global Perspective of Dutch Still Life in the Age of Exploration
Note: this three-part course takes place Saturday, October 7, October 14, and October 28 from 10 am to 4 pm each day.
Using Dutch artists as guides, students create their very own symbolic painting using their own personally chosen and arranged objects. Workshop participants are led through exercises for narrative and conceptual ideation as well as taught the basics for color mixing and paint application. They have the opportunity to visit the current exhibition Dutch Art in a Global Age as part of the class, where they’ll uncover hidden narratives within meticulously arranged objects, such as Chinese porcelain, Dutch delftware, and silver, that symbolize a vast network of global trade and cultural exchange.
