RESCHEDULED: 25th Annual African American Cultural Celebration
Please note: If the free NCMA parking lots along Blue Ridge Road and behind the West and East buildings are full, visitors can park across the street at the paid Department of Health and Human Services parking deck, 1910 Human Services Lane. Deck parking is $2/hour.
The African American Cultural Celebration (AACC)—presented by the North Carolina Museum of History with support from its community partner, the North Carolina African American Heritage Commission—celebrates Black History Month with engaging demonstrations, inspiring presentations, and powerful performances. For 25 years, this celebration has brought together African American community members, organizations, authors, artists, musicians, filmmakers, scholars, and more around a central theme to highlight the contributions that African Americans, past and present, have made to North Carolina’s history and culture.
The AACC consists of a virtual education day on Friday, January 30, and an in-person festival on Saturday, February 28, at the NCMA. Multiple demonstrations, presentations, and performances reach thousands of people each year, encouraging strong community ties and the celebration of African American culture.
NOTE: While the North Carolina Museum of History building is closed for renovations, this year’s in-person festival is being held at the North Carolina Museum of Art. Activities take place in East Building and on Gipson Plaza. Parking is available in the three main Museum parking lots. Access to the The Book of Esther in the Age of Rembrandt is free, no tickets required.
