Still. Moving: Spiral Woman as interpreted by Arts Together/Rainbow Dance Company

A single figure hangs suspended, caught between ascent and gravity, vulnerability and resilience, memory and becoming. Inspired by Louise Bourgeois’s Spiral Woman, Arts Together/Rainbow Dance Company offers a stirring choreographic meditation on the invisible forces that shape our lives. Like the sculpture itself, the performance embraces contradiction: strength wrapped in fragility, tension transformed into beauty, and movement born from stillness.

Part of the North Carolina Museum of Art’s STILL. Moving series, this site-specific performance invites audiences to experience Bourgeois’s iconic sculpture through the expressive language of dance, revealing new dimensions of an artwork that continues to challenge, comfort, and inspire.

Following the performance, join Artistic Director Kathryn Auman and members of Rainbow Dance Company for a conversation exploring the creative process and the relationship between movement, memory, and visual art.

About Rainbow Dance Company
Rainbow Dance Company is Arts Together’s multiage modern dance company where creativity and technique go hand in hand. Founded by Lemma Mackie in 1980 and led since 2005 by longtime Arts Together alum and artistic director Kathryn Auman, Rainbow brings together dancers ages 10 to 70+ in a collaborative, inclusive environment.

This performance dance series explores the timeless works of the People’s Collection and loaned works through the lens of movement. Each object becomes a partner in a visual and physical dialogue as dancers interpret form, story, and silence with their bodies. Still. Moving reimagines the gallery as a stage where past and present meet and where the boundaries between objects and experience dissolve.
