Egypt and Nubia were two great civilizations that shared the northern Nile Valley of Africa in the ancient world. As neighboring powers, they competed for control of trade networks and valuable resources, especially gold. This fall we explore the complex relationship between these cultures through a survey of their art and artifacts, including detailed views of works from the NCMA’s ancient Egyptian collection and objects featured in the exhibition Ancient Nubia: Excavating Treasures of the Nile, from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
This lecture series is presented in partnership with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Duke. OLLI provides educational, social, leadership, and volunteer opportunities to older adults locally and across the US.
About the speaker
Kris Door is a former art history professor, museum educator, and longtime supporter of the NCMA. Since retiring two decades ago, she has continued to share her enthusiasm for the Museum’s collection and exhibitions as an instructor with OLLI at Duke.
