Dreaming in Color: Liberation Station Virtual Storytime
Tune in the third Friday of each month for stories from the NCMA galleries. Victoria Scott-Miller of Liberation Station bookstore offers a series of readings and book recommendations for young people and their families, using art and literature to build bridges.
According to Scott-Miller, “Our Dreaming in Color series was created to represent and celebrate the vastness of Black culture and innovation while highlighting narratives such as joy, community, tradition, and leadership.” These recorded videos will be added to the event page at 9 am and will remain accessible on the NCMA YouTube channel.
Shia's Special Abilities by Leif Torres; illustrated by Carmen Pentalart From the author:
This book is designed to look into how a person with autism spectrum disorder may experience the world around them . . . no two people with ASD experience their world exactly the same. Don't be surprised then if some of the things described in this book aren't the same for the ASD child you may know; [the goal is] to challenge everyone to keep an open mind and to understand that children with ASD may seem a little different but at their core are still children who want to be loved and accepted for who they are.
Just Like Me by Vanessa Brantley-Newton From the publisher:
An ode to the girl with scrapes on her knees and flowers in her hair, and every girl in between . . . From Vanessa Brantley-Newton, the author of Grandma's Purse, comes a collection of poetry filled with engaging ministories about girls of all kinds . . . With bright portraits in Vanessa's signature style . . . this book invites readers to find themselves and each other within its pages.
