Encaustic paintings from ancient Egypt are still on view today. What makes their colors so vibrant and marks so expressive? Learn how to begin painting with wax from a modern master of the technique, Laura Moriarty, a painter and sculptor whose innovative approach takes the medium to new expressive heights. This virtual workshop consists of two 90-minute sessions (Saturday, March 6 and 13, 1:30–3 pm each day).
Suggested Supply List
• R&F Encaustic Paint Starter Kit
• Skillet or griddle for melting wax
• Heat gun or small torch for fusing
As with all virtual workshops, you may choose to purchase supplies and work along with the artist, or you may simply observe to decide if this is a medium you would like to pursue in the future.
Ancient lives, eternal gold. This exhibition presents eight extraordinary, gilded mummies and more than 100 related objects, including papyri, jewelry, ceramics, and deity works that connect the daily lives of these Greco-Roman Egyptians to the religious world of the gods.
