If you enjoy watching and talking about films, join us for a meeting of the virtual NCMA Film Club! Watch the film at your convenience, and then join a Zoom discussion. This month’s selection is the Mexican film Museo / Museum, based on the most infamous cultural artifacts heist in Mexican history. Our special guest for the discussion is Miguel Rojas-Sotelo, director of the North Carolina Latin American Film Festival, art historian, and visual artist.
Museo / Museum
(2018) Directed by Alonso Ruizpalacios. 128 min. NR.
Juan Núñez (Gael García Bernal) and Benjamín Wilson (Leonardo Ortizgris), can’t seem to finish veterinary school or leave their parents’ homes. Instead, they wallow in comfortable limbo. On Christmas Eve 1985, however, they decide to distinguish themselves by looting the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City of its most precious pieces and embark upon a misadventure that forces them to reckon with the implications of their actions.
“Museo is a fun, stylish, singular heist flick that's about so much more than the theft itself”—Gary Goldstein, Los Angeles Times.
