Pour a glass of wine and join Corey Smith Riley, objects conservator, and Caroline Rocheleau, curator of ancient art, for a virtual lecture and happy hour all about Bacchus. We’ll toast the completion of the Bacchus Conservation Project and the conservation treatment that has restored the Statue of Bacchus to its original condition, and you’ll learn some secrets behind the quirky, historically correct, and reversible addition of its new right arm.
RSVP to receive a link for the Zoom meeting. You will receive an email with the Zoom link at 9 am on the day of the discussion and a reminder one hour before.
Zoom meeting capacity is limited, but the lecture will be live-streamed on YouTube.
If you have questions regarding registration or logistics for this virtual event, email our manager of film and lecture programs, Maria Lopez.
We are working to make our online content accessible. If you need live captions or an ASL interpreter or have another request, email Felicia Ingram by Friday, August 14.
The Bacchus Conservation Project is made possible by Bank of America and The Institute of Museum and Library Services (MA-30-16-0264-16). Additional support provided by Steve and Frosene Zeis and Don Davis and Peggy Wilks. Support for collection research and initial study of the statue of Bacchus is made possible by Ann and Jim Goodnight/The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Fund for Curatorial and Conservation Research and Travel.
While the Museum is now open, Museum from Home programming continues, including the new NCMA Virtual Exhibitions Subscription and ongoing virtual events. Through the NCMA Recommends virtual offerings below, inspired by the Museum collection, we hope to foster contemplation, meditation, and creativity.
