(1964) Directed by Stanley Kubrick. Written by Stanley Kubrick, Terry Southern, and Peter George. 95 min. PG
In 1964, as the Cold War was at its height, director Stanley Kubrick released this black satire about the superpowers sliding into a nuclear conflict. Insane Gen. Jack D. Ripper, convinced that the Soviets are poisoning America with fluoridation, launches planes to drop atom bombs on Moscow, and his panicked superiors flounder as they try to stop it. Strangelove features an amazing cast, highlighted by Peter Sellers in three different roles.
“This landmark movie’s madcap humor and terrifying suspense remain undiminished by time” (Chicago Tribune).
