East Building, SECU Auditorium
Explore the complexities of the vineyards with a wine tasting, and then raise a glass to the god of wine. Curator of Ancient Art Caroline Rocheleau presents Bacchus, the god and the marble statue in the NCMA collection, and explains how the Bacchus Conservation Project will restore the sculpture so it can be displayed in the Classical Galleries for the first time. (Wine tasting from 3 to 3:30 pm; lecture begins at 3:30 pm.)
The Bacchus Conservation Project is made possible by Bank of America and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (MA-30-16-0264-16). Additional support is provided by Steve and Frosene Zeis and Don Davis and Peggy Wilks.
Support for collection research and initial study of the statue of Bacchus is made possible by Ann and Jim Goodnight/The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Fund for Curatorial and Conservation Research and Travel.
