East Building, SECU Auditorium
(2018) Directed by Heather Lenz. (80 min.) Not rated. Digital. In English with some subtitles.
Today one of the top-selling artists in the world, Yayoi Kusama found the journey to international acclaim paved with near-impossible odds. Her polarizing vision, informed by her growing up in a dysfunctional family and battling with mental illness, divided audiences, curators, and art leaders for decades. Today, at 89, she continues to devote her life to pushing the boundaries of painting, sculpture, performance art, and installation. Kusama: Infinity offers a deep, thoughtful portrait of an artist’s spirit prevailing against the odds.
Before the film, visit West Building to view Kusama’s LIGHT OF LIFE, now on display. Experience other Kusama masterworks through the interactive Kusama 360 experience in the Education Lobby, East Building, before the film.
Introduced by Jennifer Dasal, NCMA associate curator of contemporary art.
