With admission to Inspiring Beauty, you gain behind-the-scenes access to designers-in-residence Katherine Diuguid and Precious Lovell as they create haute couture in the gallery. Learn about the design process and garment construction.
Katherine Diuguid is an assistant professor of art and design at North Carolina State University. Her research focuses on stitch—as decoration in embroidery, as structure in hand dressmaking and tailoring, and on the history and development of stitch in the US, UK, and France. Diuguid received a Master of Art+Design from NCSU with a concentration in fibers and surface design. Previously she earned degrees in industrial design from NCSU and fashion design from Parsons the New School of Design.
Precious Lovell is an artist, designer, maker, and educator. She holds a BFA in fashion design and a master’s degree in art and design with a fibers and surface design concentration. Her socio-cultural creative practice explores the narrative potential of cloth and clothing through textile and garment-based art. She has traveled to 44 countries researching and collecting indigenous textiles and clothing. Lovell’s work has been exhibited in the US and internationally.
