Thanks, Linda! It's fun to be able to "curate" my own fantasy exhibition. El Anatsui was recently featured in L'Uomo Vogue, May-June 2012 (n. 431) as part of the "Rebranding Africa" issue. Not only was it a great read, I absolutely used some of the quotes to describe the pins on my Anatsui-Inspired Style board! http://www.vogue.it/en/uomo-vogue/people/2012/05/-el-anatsui

Perry, your post and your research are fascinating! I love how genealogy, art, history, architecture and family gatherings all blend together. And you're in the thick of it. Cheers!

My favorite period in history. As a Scottish Kennedy I look forward to a Celtic Festival to re-introduce the paintings. Haggis anyone?

What an interesting group of portraits which, once restored, should appeal to many visitors at NCMA.

Perhaps there should be a designated gallery in the "Stone" building for small focused exhibitions and for new acquisitions.

I visited the Reserve this week and I know I came away a changed person, similar as going to Stonehenge. There is power in the beautiful arrangement of the boulders. They become part of you and you part of them. This home for our native plants will last forever. With thanks and appreciation to all who have built such a monument on Mount Toxaway

The monumental task of moving massive boulders is quite challenging and Jack Owen truly was a master landscape designer. His selections of boulders and effective visual placement reflected his own artistic genius combined with mountain savvy on moving these huge rocks. His work at the Southern Highlands Reserve is so impressive. I am proud of this mountaineer and so pleased that his skills have been honored. I'll be in Raleigh this week to deliver Polytrichum and Entodon mosses for the new Nature Research Center. I'll make sure to check out the Jack Owen Memorial Boulders while I'm there!

My impression of the "Thing in the Window" is that it is an Alien...but, more interesting to me is how she put those colors together. They are soothing to study. I have never studied Georgia's work before but this painting appeals to me in its intrigue within its simplicity.

Rough-winged swallows showed up again over the pond this weekend. The flock of hooded merganser hens is increasing there, and a southern leopard frog called from the shallows at dusk. March 17-18, 2012
