This conservation story exceeds one's expectations, presenting as it does one of the most sensitive sets of issues imagineable. The museum staff reached the triumphant decision to return these handsome objects to their original state of perfection, which is how those who used them in worship knew them. This blog is indeed sharing the many facets of museum operations in meaningful ways!

Think the information on the background of these
outstanding articles in the jAG collection is
most interesting. Each time, I learn something new. Also, agree with Rebecca Nagy that the
restoration of the Finials was most fitting.

Keep us posted on anything you know of interest
on our collection anytime.

Many thanks for sharing.

I am excited to read about the addition of these beautiful Torah Finials to the NCMA Judaica collection! I think the museum made the right decision in having them restored, although the story of the Nazi desecration should definitely be told as part of the interpretation of these objects in the museum.
