Winter-Spring Film Series

Join us on a journey back to the sprawling and seductive hey day of 1960s Manhattan advertising—a world most recently revived through the hit TV series Mad Men. With sexism rampant and censorship on the decline, the cinema of the era sets out to push buttons and break barriers at every turn.

We’ll enjoy the film version of a hit Broadway musical by a former Mad magazine editor, and watch a series of films hosted by A/V Geeks. We’ll see what set the stage for the midcentury cultural revolution with a silent film accompanied by live music, a series of Vitaphone shorts, and a pre-Code gem. Then we’ll salute Elizabeth Taylor in one of her sauciest roles, visit NYC career gals and Cold War spies, and live vicariously through downtrodden workers extracting some payback from the boss!

Any way you look at it, we’re mad about Mad Men in 2012. All films introduced by NCMA Film Curator Laura Boyes unless otherwise noted.
