Museum Workout blends a choreographed physical workout with a guided museum tour. Led by dancer and choreographer Monica Bill Barnes and her dancing partner Anna Bass, audiences perform choreographed movement as they travel to works of art selected by collaborator Maira Kalman.
Barnes invited artist and author Maira Kalman to collaborate with the company to create a new way to spend time in museums. Kalman curates the art visited on the tour while Robbie Saenz de Viteri, creative producing director, mixes her recorded voice with a soundtrack ranging from disco to Motown. The Museum Workout disrupts the normally contained museum environment, invigorating participants by creating a physical relationship to the art of the ages.
The first workout of each day and all workouts on Monday, June 5, take place while the Museum is closed to the public. Each session is limited to 15 people.
