Music from Edvard Munch's Time
Aurora Musicalis (Musical Lights) is a versatile ensemble formed by distinguished members of the North Carolina Symphony.
The times and work of the great Norwegian artist Edvard Munch are the points of inspiration for a program of breathtaking stylistic diversity ranging from the romantic and expressionistic to the mystical. The music of Munch’s compatriot Edvard Grieg is featured, along with works by German romantic composer Max Bruch, Russia’s Alexander Scriabin, Austrian Arnold Schoenberg, and German Paul Hindemith.
Munch is best known for his iconic painting The Scream and the representation of emotional turbulence. But expect an afternoon of beautiful and expressive music, with just a tinge of anguish.
Tickets may be purchased at the door. Advance tickets may be purchased online or by calling the Museum Box Office, (919) 715-5923. Tickets may also be obtained from the Raleigh Chamber Music Guild by calling (919) 821-2030.
Docent-led tours of featured works of art are offered at 1:45 pm. Tour reservations: Christine Molesky, or call (919) 664-6785.
