Spring Family Festival: Rhythms of the Heart
Sunday, April 22 | 1 pmSpecial appearance by artist Ashley Bryan at 3 pm
Free
A celebration of the work of children’s book author and illustrator Ashley Bryan. Bring your family and friends to a day of music making, art workshops, dancing, and singing that explore rhythm, rhyme, reading, and writing. Visitors will find inspiration from the Museum’s exhibition Rhythms of the Heart: The Illustration of Ashley Bryan that highlights this award-winning artist’s process through sketches, woodblock prints, and completed book pages. Bryan’s whimsical illustrations retell original African folktales for young audiences.
Ashley Bryan makes a special appearance in the Joseph M. Bryan, Jr., Theater in the Museum Park to celebrate the release of his two new volumes of spirituals, Walk Together Children and I’m Going to Sing, published by Alazar Press. Bryan will be joined by students who have participated in related workshops along with guest performers who will lead the audience in song.
Bring a book (or two or three!) to donate to Book Harvest, a local nonprofit organization that distributes books throughout the Triangle to encourage children to read and build their own libraries.
