Admission to the exhibition is by ticket for a specific date and time of entry.
$7.50 for individuals

Accessibility

The North Carolina Museum of Art is accessible to everyone, and arrangements can be made for guided tours for visitors with disabilities.

  • A touch tour of the permanent collection is available for visitors with visual impairments.
  • Wheelchairs are available at the Information Desk.
  • Tours can be conducted in French and Spanish, as well as in English. Please call at least three weeks in advance to schedule a tour, (919) 839-6262, ext. 2144.
  • For auditorium lectures, an induction loop allows visitors with "telephone" switches on their personal hearing aids to hear the lectures in this manner. Special tours can be arranged by calling the tour coordinator three weeks in advance at (919)839-6262, ext. 2144.

Daily Activities

Earn Your Wings Wonder Tour: A Kid’s-Eye View of Defying Gravity
Children 12 and under can play a self-guided, interactive game through the exhibition. If they find four works, they may exchange their boarding pass at the Museum Store for a free gift. Wonder Tours available at the Information Desk.

Flight Lounge
The Museum’s Collection Connection, the Progress Energy Learning Center, transforms into a flight lounge for families during Defying Gravity. Drop-in activities include flight costumes, children’s videos, and storytelling. Quick-crafts, such as origami birds and butterflies and paper airplane construction, will be offered during Museum hours. For more details call (919) 839-6262, ext. 2400.

Group Visits and Tours

Guided Tours
Book your guided tour early. Docent-led guided tours are offered for groups of 10 or more, Wed.–Fri., by contacting the Museum’s tour coordinator at (919) 839-6262, ext. 2144, four weeks in advance. Guided tours for school groups are free with reservations four weeks in advance. Self-guided school groups are free with reservations two weeks in advance.

A slide program suitable for high school students and adults is available for loan. To borrow the slide program, call the Education Department, ext. 2144.

Family Discover Tours
Selected Saturdays, 11 a.m.

With the purchase of an exhibition ticket, enjoy a free docent-led tour of the exhibition designed for families.

Tickets

The Box Office is located at the front door entrance of the Museum and is open all regular Museum hours. In addition, the Box Office opens two hours before the start of outdoor events and one hour prior to the start of indoor events.

The Box Office accepts cash, personal checks, Visa, Mastercard and American Express.

Tickets may be purchased in person at the Museum Box Office or by calling the Box Office at (919) 715-5923.

In addition, tickets for most Museum events may be purchased through Ticketmaster by phone at (919) 834-4000, via the Internet at www.ticketmaster.com or in person at all Ticketmaster outlets.

Blue Ridge, The Museum Restaurant

Overlooking mammoth sculptures on lushly pastoral grounds, Blue Ridge, the Museum Restaurant, offers diners both great visual arts and great culinary art. Eclectic fare ranges from salads, sandwiches and entrees at lunch to sumptuous weekend brunches. From savory soups to sweet desserts—we create a masterpiece of a meal!

For reservations, call (919) 833-3548. Restaurant hours are Wednesday through Saturday: 11:30 a.m.—2 p.m. and Sunday: 10:30 a.m.—2:30 p.m.

The restaurant will be open for dinner on February 20 and March 5. Make your reservations early.
