The North Carolina Museum of Art

12 Years a Slave

Friday, August 1 | 9 pm  Canceled due to weather. Stay tuned for rescheduled date.
(2013) Directed by Steve McQueen. Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Lupita Nyong’o. (134 min.) R

Oscar’s Best Picture is a searing indictment of the institution of slavery, based on a memoir by a free black man, Solomon Northup, who was abducted and sold into bondage. Universally acclaimed, with Nyong’o’s Oscar-winning role as the exploited Patsy.

“You won't be able to tuck this powder keg in the corner of your mind and forget it. What we have here is a blistering, brilliant, straight-up classic” (Rolling Stone).

Watch the trailer.

Please note that 12 Years a Slave is rated R for violence/cruelty, some nudity, and brief sexuality.

We’ll post weather updates here, as well as on Facebook and Twitter, should it be necessary to cancel or postpone the presentation.  You may also call the Museum Box Office, (919) 715-5923, for updates.
