Art Car: The Movie

Friday, November 29 | 7:00 pm
East Building, Museum Auditorium
Free

High school teacher Rebecca Bass and her class prepare an entry for the Houston Art Car Parade. With almost 300 entrants and more than 300,000 spectators, the parade is the biggest in the world and attracts talent from across the globe.

Against the hectic race to finish, Bass exposes her class to the world of art and the camaraderie of a tight-knit community, offering a glimpse of what life is like “outside the box.”

In exploring why art cars—and self-expression—matter, co-directors Carlton Ahrens and Ford Gunter traveled the United States and the world to figure out why these artists decorate their cars, how that challenges societal norms, and why their opinions are worth hearing.

Related event: Come to the Museum for an Art Cars Meetup on Saturday, November 30, 8:30 am–1 pm in the Blue Ridge Road parking lot.
